Stephen filled the luggage with clothes socks and personal items that he would need to keep warm with the weather changes.
Even though Stephen is an OC leader he frequently takes patients to assist his staff nurses. A young man was admitted from a group home. He has no personal belongings. Stephen cared for him and established a rapport with him. Even after his shift was done, he would do daily rounds on him to make sure he was being taken care of. On Stephen’s off day he knew the patient was being discharged to a homeless shelter. He went to Wal-Mart and did personal shopping for this patient. He bought him a toiletries bag and filled it with everything he would need. He also bought him some luggage with wheels so it would be easy for him to take. He filled the luggage with clothes socks and personal items that he would need to keep warm with the weather changes. Stephen drove in before transport picked him up and brought these items to this patient. He didn’t do it for the recognition. He continuously does things that surprise everyone. He does it because he has a good heart. He’s an amazing leader a compassionate nurse and an all-around good person. He always goes above and beyond and makes an extraordinary impact on the people who have the pleasure of knowing him. I think that’s what this award is all about. Extraordinary nurses doing things most people wouldn’t do just because it feels right to them. Therefore, Stephen deserves this award.
