He absolutely portrays a man of integrity, excellence in care, human compassion, and most of all, humor.
My dad's experience in the ICU was scary. He was made to feel genuinely cared for. He could not say enough about the care he received from the staff he had the chance to meet. Every nurse assigned to him was excellent, so it was hard to pick his favorite, but the one who made a lasting impression was Steve.
Being an independent man before getting sick was the most traumatic thing for him to deal with. Steve treated him like a man rather than a patient. He incorporated humor and positive encouragement into every aspect of his care. His cancer caused many issues with his gut and he was humiliated and dreaded every part of it! Steve was able to make him comfortable with all the necessary bodily functions. They shared humorous stories and "name giving" each time. He never made him feel like he was a burden. He left the ICU with a deep admiration for all his nurses, but most especially Steve.
He made a very hard illness bearable. He left the ICU feeling like he made a friend, and he always asked about his nurses when he went home.
His words about Steve were, "He absolutely portrays a man of integrity, excellence in care, human compassion, and most of all, humor." He even said "every time I see a deer, rabbit, elk, or anaconda I will think of Steve."
