Steven was the best; he took such wonderful care of my father and the entire family. Steven was constantly checking on me and letting me know what was happening every step of the way.
I wanted to email you and let you know how wonderful and loving and passionate the Mercy staff throughout this hospital were and are still showing their care towards me. My uncle was brought into the ED a couple of weeks ago and was admitted to the 5th floor. He was later sent to the ICU after being trached due to his throat cancer getting worse and he was not able to breathe. Doctors were wonderful at keeping me up to date on how he was doing, but he was not doing so well. Last week my father was brought into the ED on Thursday, and he was admitted to the ICU. Friday when I got to work it became the worst day. I went to see my father before I went to the 6th floor. He was having a hard time breathing, and he was so tired, so I sat with him a bit and then I came up to the floor. I was not up there for an hour when the doctor sent the tech up to get me. I got down to the room and he was getting worse. The doctor said he had to talk to my father, and he agreed to be put on the vent so his body could rest. At noon I went to the 5th floor to be their secretary and when I got to there, the doctor called a code blue on my father. I went running to the 3rd floor and was met in the hallway by ICU nurses and other co-workers who were taking care of me while the doctor was getting my father back. The doctor kept me informed the whole time and even after they got him back, he was talking to me. My father ended up coding again and after they got him back his body just started giving up.
What I wanted to tell you is that Steven Hancock, regional RN, was my father's nurse on Saturday when he passed that evening. Steven was the best; he took such wonderful care of my father and the entire family. Steven was constantly checking on me and letting me know what was happening every step of the way. My father's kidneys had shut down and my stepmom had to make the hardest decision of her life. During the process, Steven was absolutely wonderful. There will be a bunch of DAISY Award nominations coming to the hospital for Steven from the family. I would like Steven to be recognized for showing how much he loves being a nurse. I have worked with Steven for four years now, and I cannot tell you how happy I was when I called the floor and found out he was my father's nurse. Steven is one of Mercy's best nurses.
