It takes a special person to be called to nursing. I takes an angel to be called to work in the NICU. Everyone in the NICU deserves the highest award for choosing that as their career field. One in particular left a great impression on us.
We aren't strangers to having a preemie. We let Sue know this "wasn't our first rodeo". Sue understood without talking to us like we were in 1st grade. Sue has 10,000 things to do not just with our baby but with other babies and she still stopped and took time to answer all of our questions. She offered her advice and most important she listened to what worked for our 1st child and worked it into the care of this baby. She is amazing in offering advice and not shoving it down our throats. She took the time to show us options for care. She also takes time out of her day to get to know us as parents and family. Small talk is a welcome distraction when dealing with a sick baby.
Everyone in the NICU deserves the highest honor. Sue in particular shows us that nursing is more than just her job - it is her calling. She is an excellent example of what nurses and nursing should be.
Thank you Sue for talking to us, for understanding that we are scared and worried, and for holding our hand throughout this process. Thank you NICU for the amazing job you do every day.
