The Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA
Sunnie Dishman, 4E Adult Psychiatry
Sunnie’s nomination truly speaks for itself. She is a sincerely compassionate individual that balances the professional care of her daily duties with friendship, sensitivity, and understanding. We are fortunate to have such outstanding nurses with us at UCLA.
“The first time I came to the new Ronald Reagan Hospital at UCLA, I felt very scared. I felt like none of the doctors could understand me. No matter how hard I tried to get any of my residents to believe me when I said that all I really need is just some time to relax, the staff believed that it was extremely important that I begin my medications immediately. I felt very tired and actually extremely terrified by all this. I asked myself, "Why should I listen to these people, I don’t even know them,” and they never really seemed to understand what I was trying to tell them: that all I really want here are some health care professionals to just hear me out and understand that I'm only here to get better.... but my nurse, Sunnie Dishman, was the only person in the world who understood healthcare is not healthcare unless if it is complimented by one thing and only one thing only: compassion. The aforementioned reasons delineate why I nominate Sunnie Dishman for the Daisy award. She is the nicest most caring, and all the while, most professional health care professional I have ever met. I feel like all the staff agrees: Sunnie is the woman who keeps 4 East a safe place for patients with mental disorders, whether they have come for counseling, medication management, or drug abuse rehabilitation. I am so happy that I had the opportunity to meet all of the staff here at the departments where I received treatment, but I believe that if I never came under Ms. Dishman's care, I never would have been able to realize just how special Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital is.”
