Sunny George consistently receives high marks from his patients and their families for providing exceptional care. His patients find Sunny compassionate and reassuring when they are in the burn unit, especially when they are first admitted to the hospital.
In January, Sunny received a "star" for providing critical care to a critically injured burn patient. His patient complimented his natural ability to relieve their fears and make them "feel safe" in a "very frightening time in their lives". Sunny knows how to assure his patient that they will be well cared for and consistently delivers this message in the care he provides. Both patients and families often request for Sunny to be re-assigned to them.
In November, hospital administration received a "thank you" note recognizing the care the burn unit provided with a list of staff members to thank. Sunny was the first name on the list.
In addition, the son of a former burn unit patient sent Sunny a note of thanks and appreciation. In the note, he wrote, "I deeply appreciate how kind you were to my mother and how hard you worked to help her. And, I know that she appreciated it too. As a result, it is my prayer that God will bless you and your family. I will never forget you."
Sunny also lent his phone charger to a patient's family member so that they could keep their phone charged while staying with their son, a critically burned patient, for an extended period.
Sunny's peers also compliment his enthusiasm and helpfulness. He will take a new-to-practice nurse "under his wing" and gently but confidently reassure them that they will be able to "do this!" when caring for a critical patient.
These seemingly small gestures are what our patients and families remember most about Sunny. It's that caring approach that absolutely means most to people whether they are patients, families, visitors, or peers.
