I am writing today to provide feedback and offer commendations to the operating team that performed my recent surgery. I had a partial left mastectomy with sentinel node biopsy and right port-a-cath removal as part of my ongoing treatment for breast cancer.
I have mental health challenges that are exacerbated by a clinical setting, the most prominent is C-PTSD. The lack of personal agency that is required for appropriate medical treatment is, unfortunately, a strong trigger and makes the unpleasant aspects of surgery even harder to bear.
In light of this, I feel compelled to recognize the extraordinary efforts of my care team to provide not only excellent medical treatment but also the personal and direct help I needed to manage my trauma and successfully navigate the experience. The three words that sum up the people on my care team are respectful, caring and professional. I must emphasize that any lapse can severely impact survivors of trauma. The fact that I felt completely supported throughout a very distressing procedure is amazing and worthy of note. Please convey my deepest gratitude to each and every person on my care team and recognize them for the valuable employees that they are.
