Susan (Susie) and I have worked together for 5 years on the NCLEX team at Avant. Throughout our time together, I have witnessed her compassion, kindness, and the care that she demonstrates to her testers. She takes a deep personal interest in them and has supported several of them through tremendously challenging times. These include house fires where the tester lost all possessions, miscarriages of pregnancies, divorce, severe depression, and suicidal feelings. In each of these, she spoke with her testers, offering support and communicating with them that they were not alone. She cried with them, prayed with them, and, when appropriate, made sure we, as a company, intervened on their behalf to ensure a safe outcome for them. Her willingness to listen and be present with them in their trouble, I believe, was instrumental in them seeking the help they needed and moving forward with their lives, knowing that Avant, and Susie herself, would be there for them when ready to continue the program. Several have already passed their NCLEX and received their assignments from us. Listening to her end of the conversations also allowed her colleagues to benefit from her skill in communication with testers and provide similar support to their testers experiencing difficulties. I know she is directly responsible for the success of so many testers who might otherwise have given up on their dreams. She truly exemplifies the compassionate care our profession strives to embody.
