We had a walk-in gunshot wound to the head on a 4-year-old child rushed back to Baptist South ED. The mother was crying in the hall near the triage. Susan played a very valuable role in our resuscitation. She came to the room and saw that we had ample nurses and doctors available to care for this patient. Then, she started tending to the mother. She was able to speak to the mother in a respectful way after just having seen this child bloody and unresponsive. She obtained critical information for us on this case, including medical history and the events leading up to the accident. She then came and presented that information to me and the other medical staff in the room in a quiet and direct way without disturbing the resuscitation. In this way, Susan helped save this child's life, adding valuable information to the case. Susan is a nurse who is always empathetic, always compassionate, and always helpful. We need more nurses like Susan Helton.
