She hugged me, laughed with me, and took the time to put my soul at ease before I had to go back for surgery.
I’ve been a nurse for over 11 years. I’ve worked in various roles and cared for patients at all stages of life. I’ve been trained and poured into by the best. Nurses who have given their lives to nursing and sacrificed so much to the profession, including bringing up new nurses the right way. Suzanne embodies this to her very core. She has been an influence on me my entire career.
I recently came in for a hysterectomy. It wasn’t my favorite day, and I was worried about so many things. Emotional and crying, just not ready for the day. Suzanne wasn’t scheduled to come into work that day until 8 am, but she was there early for me and was able to help prep me for my procedure, more so mentally. She hugged me, laughed with me, and took the time to put my soul at ease before I had to go back for surgery. She talked to my husband like he was family and calmed his nerves as well.
After my procedure, Suzanne was a God-sent. I was in so much pain, and it felt like she never left my side. She has such a calm about her that she was able to get me settled and comfortable in an impossible situation. After a hysterectomy, I’m sure you can imagine there’s little modesty to be maintained, but Suzanne handled what could have been an awkward situation with pure grace and she left me with every ounce of dignity I walked in with while she made sure my body was healing and safe. I know she had other patients she was dealing with on the same day TJC was in the building, but she made me feel like I was her only priority and that is why she is a DAISY Nurse.
Suzanne has always shown the most caring attitude towards her patients, and I’m lucky enough now to say that I experienced that firsthand. She took care of me and my husband and kept my privacy at the forefront of her to-do list, and for that, I will be forever grateful.
