Suzanne had a patient who upon meeting her in the Emergency Department said, "You cannot touch me." He continued to be difficult, but Suzi was kind and by the end of his stay he trusted her. The patient asked that Suzi go to his car (which he lived in) and get a few items. He told the staff that Suzi was the only one he trusted. She took it all in stride and promised to help him. The patient was so grateful to her. Suzi showed tremendous compassion and understanding for a patient that many nurses would have dismissed as paranoid and difficult. Instead, Suzi saw a human being with a complicated past, who was in a scared and vulnerable situation. She treated this patient with kindness and respect; she went out of her way to make his hospital stay as comfortable as possible. Suzi is a beautiful example to a nurse, quietly serving others, because of her caring heart!She excels in the ED and blows us all away.
