When my husband was moved from ICU to a comfort room we were totally numb. Unfortunately, the night was difficult, and we even second guessed what happened and should we be here. Then Sylvia arrived for her 7 AM shift. From the beginning, she showed such professionalism, kindness, empathy, and compassion to my husband and those of us within his room. She would say she’d be back in 1 hour, but she returned every 45 minutes to check on my husband. Never did I need to leave the room to find her.

I mentioned that I appreciated her coming so often as I realized she had other patients. Sylvia stated she had other patients, but he was her top priority. Wow! All during Sunday she clearly explained the medications and asked what we had observed. Sylvia helped us make decisions as to what medications seemed appropriate for my husband’s needs. She never was in a hurry and always asked us, individually, if she could get us something. By her calm, reassuring demeanor, we were able to be with my husband through his passing.

Even though her shift was coming to a close, she assured us not to rush, she would be here and would bathe him before his transition. Words cannot truly express my gratitude to this amazing young lady. My son and his girlfriend were with me in the room, and my son's girlfriend is currently in a nursing program, and she witnessed what a dedicated nurse should be! Sylvia was definitely the gold standard! God placed Sylvia in our lives when we needed her so much and we will be forever grateful. I’m convinced all her patients are her top priority and this is how she treats every patient!
