Tammy Duffey recently facilitated the 60th wedding anniversary celebration here at Meritus Medical Center of an inpatient and his wife. The patient was admitted but, unbeknownst to him, his family had planned a surprise 60th wedding anniversary celebration for two days later. Rescheduling the celebration seemed inevitable. Tammy became aware of the dilemma and began searching for ways to help the family. She obtained approval from the administrator on-call, showed the family options of the possible rooms that would suit the occasion, and cleared the room of medical equipment. Tammy arranged for security staff to help the family access the room for set up and suggested ways that the patient could attend with appropriate nursing supervision. She also checked on the patient and family several times during the day, offering assistance as her time and duties allowed. Special occasions are priceless and thanks to Tammy, this is one that wasn't missed.
