Tammy has been a nurse in the Rheumatology Department for over 20 years. Her dedication to our patients is evident daily. She has a unique knowledge base from long term caring of our patients with rare rheumatologic diseases. She goes above and beyond daily to help our patients.
Just one example was a patient who had an allergic reaction to an infusion medication. Tammy understood the parents' ambivalence about trying a new medication and on her own, arranged for it to be done in the infusion unit, coordinating it with an infusion, so the patient would be monitored when getting the new medication. This shows commitment to our patients, empathy, understanding the parents' worries, and initiative in planning to help the patient. Her excellence in service goes beyond helping our routine patients.
Another example is when a patient was seeing me but was meant to see dermatology. Tammy stayed on the phone to make sure a dermatology appointment was scheduled for the patient before they left, due to language barrier contributing to the patient being scheduled to see us inadvertently in the first place. Tammy easily could have provided the phone number to dermatology and sent them on their way, but Tammy always goes above and beyond for any patient. Over the years, there are countless patients that she has made a difference in their lives just by being their constant, reliable face of Rheumatology.
