Tania Ayala's passion is for the patients we serve who do not often get their cancer screenings. For four years we have done employee education. Tania's heart is in the underserved community and for the first time, she led the effort to take the message to our clinics with fun fairs and information for patients. At one clinic alone she signed up 27 for screenings. She also involved our community partners. She led our team out to our clinics as well as back to school events to educate women about the need to get their cancer screening done regularly to catch cancers in the early stages. She commented to me, she had seen too many young women and mothers, come in with stage 3 and 4 cancers and die, all due to a deficit in education and access.
One example of Tania's care and compassion is her involvement with our patients who have lost a baby. She took additional training and has stepped up to care for these patients during the most difficult time when a wanted pregnancy has ended in a less than positive outcome. She serves on the palliative care committee for our division to plan the care of babies who will survive for short periods of time after birth.
