Her willingness to "over-explain" and stay a few extra minutes to ensure I was safe and comfortable really made a difference in how I viewed this entire process.
I had a picc line put in at another facility. The whole time I was there, they did not explain what was happening unless I asked specific questions (including what a picc line is), and were very vague in their answers. They did not clean the wound well after insertion and didn't schedule a bandage change. 4 days later, I received my first infusion at the CCC in HFM. Taran listened while I told her how scared I was during the picc process and that I wasn't sure what was happening, which made it worse. She then explained everything she was doing and why. She also saw the original bandage was bothering me, and even though I wasn't actually scheduled for a change until a few days later, she stayed late to get me cleaned up and put on a fresh bandage. She explained what she was doing, what the parts of the picc do, why they use it, and how they maintain the picc during treatment. She was extra careful to get all the dried blood cleaned up the best she could, which alleviated a lot of my discomfort. Her willingness to "over-explain" and stay a few extra minutes to ensure I was safe and comfortable really made a difference in how I viewed this entire process. She definitely made a scary experience into something that I can feel confident in continuing with this team.
