By intervening, Tayler helped this patient with coping tools, medication education, and identifying a missed home medication.
Tayler demonstrated compassionate, competent nursing care for an adolescent patient on the Inpatient Child/Adolescent Unit, Robert Young Center. The young teenager was reluctant to take any medication for her condition. Tayler asked the patient if she could talk with her about her medications and the reason why she did not want to take them. Tayler provided the patient with printed medication sheets and educated the patient about the medication and side effects. Tayler gained her trust. The patient took the medication willingly. Tayler flashed her a note stating "I am so proud of you". In addition, Tayler found the patient was not being given a medication that she had previously taken at home for an infection. The patient's nurse and nurse practitioner were notified, and orders were received. Tayler provided the patient with 1:1 care by listening, educating and providing effective therapeutic communication. By intervening, Tayler helped this patient with coping tools, medication education, and identifying a missed home medication. She helped this patient progress towards a successful discharge home.
