Taylor not only delivered on that promise, but she went above and beyond, showing the pure sweetness in her soul.
It is my pleasure and honor to nominate Taylor Hanscom for the DAISY Award. During her time in our unit, she has set an example of what it means to be an exceptional nurse and person. Her patients describe her as attentive, kind, patient, and outstanding in her care delivery. Taylor has demonstrated her unwavering commitment to patient-centered care, patient satisfaction, and patient outcomes. She is not only clinically competent beyond her years, but she also has the kindest heart that separates her from the rest.
Taylor embodies true compassion and empathy for her patients and their families. I can provide one of many examples where Taylor's commitment to our patients shined through. We had a patient with a long and strenuous hospital course with a poor prognosis. He was saddened and frightened by the fact that he would likely miss out on giving his kids the holiday season they deserved. We promised him before his passing that we would make Christmas special for his children.
Taylor not only delivered on that promise, but she went above and beyond, showing the pure sweetness in her soul. She made personalized giant stockings for each child, hand-made and decorated with all their favorite things. She knew what they loved because she got to know them beyond their father’s diagnosis. Taylor brought jingle bells, antlers, and Santa hats for her coworkers to wear for our gift delivery, bringing the Christmas spirit to children who lost their father just two weeks before. Unfortunately, the patient was not physically with us to see it, but I know he would have been so grateful for Taylor's thoughtfulness, generosity, and graciousness. This was just one of many examples of her constant dedication to patient experience and outcome.
She continues to devote her free time to our patients to this day. She has made it her mission to work on educational materials for our non-English-speaking population. Her focus is on patient education and discharge instructions, showing her commitment to our patients beyond their time in our unit. She is also currently working on improving the patient experience by collaborating with other disciplines in the hospital to make a positive change. Her actions show her advocacy for our patients in receiving all the tools they need to be successful in their recovery in the most holistic way. She has endless ideas for our unit, all driven by the goal of improving patient-care delivery. She has taken on multiple champion roles and volunteers all her knowledge for the good of our patients. Taylor spends her free time volunteering in the community and motivates our team members to join her. I am so lucky to not only work with Taylor but also to know a person like her. I am so impressed by her, and she is an inspiration to her colleagues. Taylor is an invaluable member of the team.
