My aunt, for whom I am healthcare POA, was admitted through Emergency presenting with pulmonary edema, pneumonia, and a heart attack. Once stabilized, assessed, and intubated she was moved to Taylor's care in ICU. As a person with a gravely ill family member, Taylor's knowledge, application, professionalism, compassion, and communication were outstanding. She cared gently for my aunt when performing her duties and took great care to protect my aunt's dignity, even though she was sedated and couldn't know the difference. When we family members arrived, daily Taylor would communicate what had transpired from the previous day, updates, new orders, and answered all our questions. For the few things she could not answer, her response was, " I will find out." And she did!
Once my aunt was stable enough for open heart surgery, Taylor worked an extra shift and specifically requested to care for my aunt after surgery. The continuity and consistency of the care Taylor provided were beyond expectation. Although Taylor was not the only nurse who cared for and assisted my aunt the 40 days she was hospitalized, Taylor was one to offer information rather than us having to ask for it. She was the one who knew our names from the first day. And Taylor was the one we looked to for information, even when my aunt wasn't her specific patient.
Nurses like Taylor are flawless diamonds to the healthcare field. They shine, they're strong, and they are priceless! Although pale in comparison, my aunt's son and I thank Taylor from the bottom our hearts and the depths of our souls for the professional, compassionate care she provided and for the information and details she delivered to us. She made a frightening situation better, kept us informed, calmed our fears, and provided excellent care to not only the patient but us family members as well. Taylor, you are a rock star nurse!
