I usually don't write extra compliments about our nurses because the job and care we do for our patients is done routinely. However, I can no longer be silent. I must take the time and bring attention to this extra ordinary effort that was done by and extra ordinary nurse; our very own Teresa Fischler in the emergency department.
Teresa took over the care of a patient with head laceration from a fall at home. This older patient came in with her husband and was processed for discharge. Teresa wheeled the patient to the lobby and found out that their car key was missing, valet parking had inadvertently misplaced it. (The key was found and returned.)
Teresa offered to drive this couple home because she was worried the cab would take too long to get to the hospital. It can often take quite a while for a cab to get to the hospital especially at night. She wanted them to get home sooner because they were exhausted. Teresa had already clock-out from her shift earlier and proceeded to give the older couple a ride home. After droping them off at their home she kindly insisted on driving the husband back to the hospital parking lot with the spare car key retrieved from their home so they would not have to worry about their car being left at the hospital parking lot.
Teresa has done many special favors for our department: such as staying late after her shift to help out her co-workers when the staff is overwhelmed with a high volume of patients in the ED. She never hesitates to help and is always eager to step up to the plate whenever we need help particularly nights when resources are limited. She has done so many great things for our department, but she truly went above and beyond in giving this elderly couple truly unexpected care. Her zeal and extra ordinary compassion is unmeasurable. Teresa is truly a remarkable individual, overflowing with compassion, and a heart too big to measure. Therefore, I nominate Teresa for a well-deserved DAISY Award.
