Terry was my son's nurse for 2 days. When we first met, she came in and automatically made us feel welcome. She did not hesitate to talk to us like people, and not just a patient. She had a great bedside manner. She checked on us frequently. She made sure that my son was doing okay, and if we needed something, she helped with what she could. She even helped us get answers to the questions about my son's care and made sure we were up to date with all of it. She stayed in touch with my son's doctors to make sure he was getting what was needed. I nominate her because she could see the boredom from both my son and me. She came in on the 2nd day and I looked gloomy. She asked if there was anything, she could do and wanted to know if I was all right. Some people will look at you and walk away, but not Terry. She said, "if you need to rest, you rest".
My favorite thing that she did was making sure my son was up on his feet and not just veg'd out on his cell phone. Everyone, including me is caught up on their cell phones, not taking the time for each other. My son and I had been nitpicking with each other lately, but her acts of kindness helped us bond. It was the most my son and I have laughed in a long time. She brought some fun stuff for my son to do. Just to get him off his phone and watching YouTube was awesome. My son and I sat in the room playing Flip UNO for hours. We laughed and carried on with each other for hours. At the end of the day, I thanked her for helping us. I was happy she was there to help me remember how to have fun with my kid again. Thank you again, Terry, you were awesome!
