Terry provided reassurance, trust, and compassionate care during a difficult situation.
I would like to recognize Terry Harding, NP at Occupational Medicine as an Extraordinary Nurse. Terry goes beyond the care of injured workers. She comes to the clinic early and leaves late, many times she is the last person to leave. Terry will assist anyone without hesitating regarding care.
There was a situation when an injured worker called our 1-800 number to report an injury. The injured worker was upset, crying and very worried. Injured worker was assisting with accessing a central line and was stuck with a needle during the procedure. The exposure was a high-risk situation. During the intake process, there are multiple questions asked to get a history. I stopped the intake to get the other case manager to go get Terry to assist with the transition of care due to the high-risk needle stick and the injured worker being pregnant. The other case manager went over to the clinic and found Terry. She was in the bathroom and we hurried her to come to my office while I was completing the intake. Terry got on the phone; spoke to the injured worker in a compassionate tone and voice. She reassured the worker about her pregnancy and baby. Terry asked several questions and had the injured worker come over to the clinic. It was at the end of the day. Terry had to coordinate care with the OB/GYN physician and another provider who works with high-risk exposures. The worker came into the clinic. Terry stayed until she completed care for the injured worker. She provided reassurance, trust, and compassionate care during a difficult situation.
Terry has a lot of compassion for injured workers especially with this situation and other difficult problems. She had to build trust right away with the risk factors being pregnant. Terry is respected by her team. She is reliable to all injured workers and co-workers. She goes to other Occupational Medicine clinics at Greene and Norwich. If you have personal questions or concerns, she is approachable and gives you comfort without asking. If Terry does not know the answer, she will research the information and follow up with the person. Terry has many talents and goes beyond what she needs to do. She will educate employees with health issues during DOT physicals, Workers Comp. claims, or a pre-employment physical. Terry takes the time with each person with a caring, compassionate and trusting way. Thank you!
