It is not unusual for Tiffanie to display a compassionate attitude for her patients throughout her daily shift, but today she truly went above and beyond. A patient today who was not assigned to Tiffanie had begun to have a breakdown where she became violent towards herself. Tiffanie heard the commotion in the hallway and knew that the sitter was in need of assistance, so she quickly came to help with the situation. Tiffanie had this patient previously, so she had already developed a relationship with the patient and knew her behavioral history. Tiffanie rushed to the patient's bedside to help. She remained at the patient's bedside, holding her hand and talking to the patient to calm her down. She kept repeating, "We care about you," and telling her how important her safety is to us. Tiffanie was able to calm her down successfully and came up with a solution: to cheer the patient up a bit by taking a walk to change the scenery. By the end of it, the patient's attitude and behavior had changed completely. Being in the room with the patient and Tiffanie, you could see the positive impact that her calming and caring attitude had on the patient and the trust that the patient had for Tiffanie.

Tiffanie’s response to the situation for a patient who was not even assigned to her was admirable. It reminded me of the reason I, as well as many others, chose to become a nurse which is our passion to help others. Tiffanie is an extraordinary nurse, and I believe she absolutely deserves this recognition.
