We never would have gotten to this point without Tina.
We are so grateful for Tina Augsburger in the Dupont Hospital Resource Center. As first-time parents, we encountered a few stumbling blocks out of the gate regarding breastfeeding, which we now know is a very common occurrence. Tina was so uplifting and encouraging during this stressful time. Before reaching out to her, the whole mood and atmosphere at our house were in disarray and tense. Being new to parenthood is an adjustment in its own right and then throw in a baby who isn't getting fed and you can imagine the already sleepless nights being turned up a notch.
At our wit's end, I reached out to Tina and she scheduled a visit for the next day. Right from the start, she explained that we weren't bad parents and that breastfeeding is a nice combo of art and science. All the pre-pregnancy books we read and classes we took made breastfeeding seem like the easiest thing in the world. Well, Tina informed us that issues arise all the time and there is no such thing as a cookie-cutter approach.
When my wife and I left that first appointment with Tina, we had a game plan in place and felt like we had been given a second chance for milk to come in. We followed everything Tina said to a T and sure enough, we got back our daughter had put on weight and the hard work was paying off. By visit three, she was making enough milk to win a blue ribbon at at 4H fair competition! I cannot explain the happiness we felt when Tina graduated us from her care. This email is no way that can convey how appreciative I am of Tina and the resource center.
I have watched my wife cry, thinking she was an unfit mother who couldn't provide milk for her baby, to now getting to watch their bonding time during feeding and seeing the connection that it brings. We never would have gotten to this point without Tina. I can't imagine anyone having a baby and not signing up for a lactation consultant no matter how smoothly the new parent thinks things are going. We will certainly tell anyone that we know with a new child to make an appointment even if you think you don't need it. The peace of mind is worth more than gold.
