I was hospitalized for knee problems. My right knee replacement became infected. I was cared for by a doctor from MOG and by Tina Johnson, MSN, FNP-BC Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner at Methodist North Hospital. I received excellent care from Tina during this whole ordeal.
The next thing I remember is that the doctor from MOG and Tina did a biopsy on my knee, so they could find out what the infection was. They did a gallium scan to determine the infection. My doctor who did my original surgery worked for Campbell Clinic and out of Baptist Collierville hospital. Eventually I was going to have to go out there for further surgery.
Tina came to my room every day to check on me and to tell me of any progress they had made. They had to wait for the specimen to grow to show the infection. She came to me on the 26th to tell me that the infection was determined to be a rare hemolytic streptococcus. The doctor at MOG could not mess with what another doctor had done. Tina called Baptist Collierville and Dr C to get me transferred. Dr C and Baptist Collierville would not accept me as a transfer. Methodist North finally had to just discharge me. Then I had to get to Baptist Collierville ED and they would call Dr. C to come see me and admit me. The next day they did the surgery. Methodist North was having a lot of trouble with Baptist Collierville and Dr. C getting me out to Baptist.
I knew they would work it out. I could see that Tina was determined to help me get where I needed to be. I also could see that she treated me with kindness, respect, and also as a follower of Christ there are always good people like Tina. Tina finally got an acceptable plan. But there was one more hurdle and kindness that Tina was determined to do and that was getting me out to Collierville. I was supposed to go to Collierville in an ambulance but it was taking too long for the ambulance to get there.
The final kindness Tina did was that she drove me out to Collierville from North in her own vehicle. That was a lot of gas. That was the ultimate gift of respect and kindness by Tina. She stayed with me until Dr. C came to see me and I was admitted. Her act of kindness means I can deal with the pain because Christ gives strength to overcome, the wisdom to find solutions, and his presence to keep us going. God put Tina in my life for a reason. Not only does God bring our healing, but uses others to bring about the healing, and also uses us and others to bring about the healing of the world.
