Ting embodies what a nurse is: compassionate, kind, knowledgeable, and an advocate not only for her patients but for her colleagues as well.
2020 has been a difficult year full of uncertainty, fear, and worry with the pandemic. As nurses, we have seen this all too well in the faces of our patients, colleagues, and family members. As we anxiously wait for 2020 to be over in hopes of a better 2021, the one positive thing about 2020, which I can say in certainty and pride, is working alongside Ting. The entire perioperative team is blessed with amazing nurses, orderlies, ward clerks, and ancillary staff who all work well as a team. Ting, however, goes above and beyond not only for her patients but for her colleagues. Ting demonstrates what it is like to be a caring and hardworking nurse who does work without complaints and who constantly takes the initiative to make sure her patients and the staff she works with are all taken care of. Ting will help everyone without anyone having to ask and as a relief charge nurse, she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure patients go into their surgeries on time, nurses and staff get their breaks, and patients and family members are kept up to date with any possible delays or changes to their surgery schedule. Ting is innovative and will think of how things can get better or improve and she is always one step ahead, making sure there is adequate staffing on the unit and our supplies are stocked. Ting will never get upset when you ask her questions, even if it’s the same question over and over again, and will take the time to teach you and then make sure you understand it. She is the type of nurse that you strive to be when you were a nursing student because she embodies what a nurse is: compassionate, kind, knowledgeable, and an advocate not only for her patients but for her colleagues as well. So, although 2020 has been a difficult and dark year, Ting has consistently been the light that keeps us going and helps us to shine even during the darkest times.
