Her actions were instrumental in providing the patient, family, and surgeon with the knowledge that we are patient and service-oriented.
Recently, a surgical patient made it to the floor without his required wound vac to go home. Unsure where the wound vac ended up, we reached out to multiple entities to help us get the required equipment to send this at-risk patient home. Every step we took seemed to no avail. The surgeon and his staff were very concerned as the patient was somewhat cognitively impaired, and we wanted to assure him the very best chance of recovery. When I reached out to the OR I was blessed with talking to T'naiha Ellis. She quickly grasped the situation and treated me so kindly, and it was helpfulness in itself! At that time, she was very busy but put my patient as a high priority and continued to consider him as one of the OR's valued patients. I was amazed at her ability to address the need and fill it. She and her staff went through 3 different vacs until we had the correct one for the patient. Unlike many others, fault was never considered just the well-being of the patient. I, as another caregiver, really appreciated her sharing my concern for the patient and helping me meet his need. Her actions were instrumental in providing the patient, family, and surgeon with the knowledge that we are patient and service-oriented. We, on the floor, felt like the OR had our same goals and the same patient-centered focus. I so appreciated her team-building approach and the "can do" attitude she shared. She is truly an Extraordinary Nurse.
