A patient developed a cervical hematoma following a drain being pulled, a day after an uneventful surgery. This situation quickly became emergent as the patient found it difficult to swallow and breathe, with the hematoma expanding. Toni worked efficiently and effectively, calmly reassuring this very anxious patient, noting she was present and would not leave him. She coordinated the efforts of the patient's RN and STAT team, assisting as needed for treatment and return to the OR.
The next day, she was off but was in touch to see how the patient was recovering. Days thereafter she checked on the patient and helped care for him, even though she was not the patient's RN. Toni continually goes "above and beyond"-- with a smile and calm demeanor and she played a pivotal role in this life saving event and successful discharge.
