I've had the opportunity to work with Tonya for multiple weeks on Eskenazi labor and delivery, and more specifically the Triage area. Tonya is by far one of the most compassionate, hard working nurses I've ever worked with. Triage, a catch-all for all pregnant women, can be a very busy, stressful, and at times extremely sad. More than once a day, Tonya has to comfort and help counsel women with their pregnancy losses, but she treats everyone with dignity and respect and gives each one the time they need and deserve. In addition, she often runs triage by herself while taking care of multiple other patients. She does it not only with ease, by with a smile on her face and continued work ethic. She keeps patients fluids going, gives meds, and completes the numerous orders us physicians would place. And she does it all knowing that it is best for the patient and without concern. Again, often by herself and working her butt off. But when a patient sees her, the patient feels as though they are the only person there. She makes them feel important, which they are. Lastly, Tonya makes everyone better by knowing her work is part of the better for the team. She doesn't do it for the recognition or pride, but because it's how to best care for patients and work with the team. If I were designing my dream labor and delivery team, she'd be one of my first picks. She deserves the recognition she never seeks but definitely earns.
