Tracy was working skillfully and compassionately to make our father comfortable, to minimize his suffering, and to allow him to have the peace and dignity that he deserved.
Sometimes you are fighting so hard to help your sick loved one! You work to help them keep going, to keep fighting, to stay alive, and to have quality of life, even though everything has been turned upside down. They want and need you to stand beside them in this fight and so you do. But, at some point, the fight is over.
We met Tracy in our father's/grandfather's room at St. Pete's. We could tell immediately that she was a skilled nurse. She focused on our father and his needs and she focused on our family as well. Tracy was working skillfully and compassionately to make our father comfortable, to minimize his suffering, and to allow him to have the peace and dignity that he deserved. We could tell that Tracy was fighting just as hard for our father as we were, but the fight felt different from our own. It felt kinder and more peaceful. Watching Tracy helped us realize that the fight was no longer about keeping dad alive, but about his comfort.
Thank you, Tracy, for caring for Grandpa B. Thank you for showing us through your skilled nursing that it is not giving up but simply putting our focus on what matters. You are our DAISY!
