Tracy is an RN on 2West who was caring for a patient with a severe CVA (cerebrovascular accident). The patient’s grandson brought her a stuffed animal that he purchased from our hospital gift shop. The patient quickly declined that day, was transferred to ICU and had died. During the transfer, the stuffed animal from her grandson had gotten lost in the linens. The grandson was upset that he would not have the item to remember his grandmother by. Tracy could have waited to see if the animal would have eventually been found by the laundry facility and mailed it to the family, but instead went to the gift shop and purchased the same stuffed animal with her own funds and told the grandson she had found it. He was so relieved and grateful to Tracy that she was able to “return” this item to him before he left the hospital. Her actions surely helped him through a difficult day.
