However, D and Travis persevered and kept their cool. Kept her from hurting herself. Compassionately dealt with her and made sure she was safe.
I am not quite sure how you thank someone for caring so much and giving so much while at the same time keeping their cool and displaying the height of professionalism. But that is what Travis Burks and his colleagues did. My mom had a valve replacement procedure on Wednesday morning. My stepfather and I sat with her all day. In the evening, we needed to leave in order to grab a bite to eat, take care of the dogs, and rest, as it had been a stressful and long day.
Up until then, my mom had been doing okay. Yes, she wanted to go home, and she kept asking to be able to, but nothing too bad. Oh, I forgot to mention my mom is in the late, early/mid stage of dementia. Shortly after we left, my Mom turned ugly. She berated the staff, phoned and yelled at my stepfather, tried to remove her IV line, and I am guessing she became inconsolable and most likely near violent. My mother has shown that dementia can make a person mean. Oh, I am so very sorry she did that. However, D and Travis persevered and kept their cool. Kept her from hurting herself. Compassionately dealt with her and made sure she was safe. How can I thank your staff enough for going above and beyond, in my opinion? I know I was told it's their job and this happens, but the nursing staff does so much. They work so hard. When they deal so very well with someone in the state my mom was in, and it has to be noted. Praise and thanks need to be given. So, thank you for doing such a good job. For being there no matter what. For caring so very much.
