As family members of a critically ill patient, we were able to witness many interactions between our loved family member and his nurse for a few days- Trista. Trista would stop in often just to check on how he was doing. When Trista came in to give him medications, she took the time to explain every medication and what it was for and spent time helping him get the medication down.
Trista also took the time to engage him in conversation about his favorite pastimes of cars, hunting, and music. At the end of her shift, Trista took the time to have the very difficult conversation of saying goodbye to a patient she had taken care of and had come to enjoy. She knew he would be leaving for hospice the next day and she likely would never see him again. She thanked him for letting her take care of him and let him know he was a patient she would always remember and wished him the best for his journey ahead. Hugs were exchanged, smiles were given and comfort was cherished. That is what you call an exceptional interaction. Trista gave all the attention and nursing skills she has obtained to give extraordinary care to our loved one.

You helped us walk through a difficult time with the love and compassion of a truly caring person and healthcare provider. I am honored to have met you during this difficult time and all of your assistance to help my husband receive the right care at the right time and fostering his transfer back to Harbor Hospice where he will be assisted down this path. I am struggling to find the words to tell you how much you have helped with this journey. You are an exceptional person and I greatly appreciate all that you have done. I will never forget you.
