As the Assistant Nurse Manager of a busy 38 bed Medical Surgical Telemetry Unit, Trudy is often seen running from one end of the unit to the other - yes actually running from one end of the unit to the other. She is on the spot at all times to assist her team members for all tasks from simple transfers to medical emergencies. She has a personality that draws the attention of all the patients and makes their day. The smiles that come over their faces when she interacts with them are priceless. She had a great sense of humor and is able to weave that into her great sense of caring and compassion to make all of our patients feel safe and well cared for. She uses critical thinking each day to troubleshoot problems, always making sure all our patients are receiving the right level of care and are directed to the physicians who will dictate their care. She is a true leader and collaborator. Her commitment to our unit is at the highest level - she has changed her schedule to meet needs and works along with our other Assistant Nurse Manager to make sure staffing is in place. She truly makes a difference each day she works. On rounds and through letters, phone calls and cards, patients and family members rave about her care. She creates a positive work environment mentoring our new graduates, supporting, teaching and growing them. She is positive and enthusiastic for new learning experiences and recently joined two new committees for this coming year. As a leader on the unit, she is focused on our quality and safety and strengthening our team work. I am proud to say that her effective communication has led to many positive experiences for both patients and families who have been on our unit. Her relationship with the Interdisciplinary Team is outstanding and she plays a key role in collaborating on rounds to meet the individualized plan of care for each patient. If I was a patient, I would choose her for my nurse. She is hands down, fantastic!
