He was compassionate, caring and thoughtful in his care and approach.
Recently, during my stay at WVMC, I was cared for in the ED twice, the OR and ICU. All of the care I received was absolutely excellent. What really stood out to me was the care given by Tyler. As a new nurse, he approached his role with confidence, which also gave me confidence. He was compassionate, caring and thoughtful in his care and approach. He checked in frequently and kept me updated as things progressed. It is not easy to care for a coworker, but he did so privately with compassion and kindness. He also made sure to check in with my husband, who was quite worried. I have heard from other patients about the care they received from Tyler, and they have experienced the same thing. I think he is a bright star at WVMC and having such a warm and caring nurse in the ED is a big win! He exemplified each of our core values and is so deserving of the DAISY Award.

I rounded with a patient who said she was undergoing a terrible time with a Thyroid Storm, which was new for her. She was very scared and said she had been very confused and “embarrassed by her confusion and moments of personal exposure and indecency.” She stated that Tyler was so kind and compassionate and treated her with so much dignity and grace. He helped her feel safe and that she would be ok during this crisis. She stated she couldn’t thank him enough. She is much better today, and has returned to normal cognition. She said much of that had to do with Tyler and his reassurance and great care.
Thank you, Tyler!
