Vanessa Cooley has stepped up and shown leadership and courage during a dark time of uncertainty. She helped train people and took the role of charge nurse in new units that opened up for COVID-19 patients. She always showed up to work with a good attitude no matter the conditions. She held patients' hands while their families were unable to be there with them and connected them to video calls for them. She advocated for the patients and also for nurses who were not ICU experienced but thrown in to care for this patient population. I watched her work very hard during this assignment and we have all struggled to emotionally hold ourselves together while feeling helpless for our patients.
