The Trinity Health Grand Rapids vascular access team was founded in July of 2016 to help reduce our CLABSI rate, and they have had a huge impact on outcomes at the organization! Brittany and Jinyi are very dedicated to the specialty practice of infusion and vascular access, and I would like to nominate them as a team for the outcomes associated with their evidence-based care practices. Brittany and Jinyi continuously advocate for the right line, at the right time, early in our patients’ hospital stay – with the goal of ensuring the best clinical outcome for each patient. Examples of their care practices are interprofessional collaboration with specialty service lines to determine the most appropriate vascular access device for patients undergoing treatment such as chemotherapy, advocating for the selection of the least invasive device, fewest lumens, and most appropriate device based on the patient’s vascular access status, preferences, and complexity of patient care plans. They focus on the goal of prevention of complications such as CLABSI in addition to patient satisfaction, reducing IV access attempts. They also have helped achieve longstanding zero CLABSI across the organization in multiple care areas, including ones at high risk where CLABSI prevention is difficult.
Thank you both for all that you do to advocate for patients’ vascular access needs, the education support you provide to our nurses, providers, and patients and their loved ones, and for your dedication to central line care.
