When we returned about an hour later, we found Victoria gently holding and consoling our son. She was rocking him, providing the comfort and security he desperately needed.
No parent ever wants to find themselves in the PICU, but that was the reality my wife, son, and I faced recently. Our baby boy was admitted to the PICU with a frightening fever of 104.5 degrees and was diagnosed with RSV and adenovirus. Those six days were some of the most challenging times of our lives. During this trying period, we were incredibly fortunate to have Nurse Victoria by our side. Her presence was nothing short of angelic, and we firmly believe she is deserving of the DAISY Award. From the moment we arrived, Victoria's compassion and dedication shone through. Coming from a religious background, I had initiated a prayer chain that eventually included hundreds of people praying for my son's recovery. Despite this support, the situation remained overwhelming, especially with our home life in disarray and our three-year-old also needing attention. Victoria’s unwavering support and encouragement constantly reminded us that our son was in the best possible hands.
Victoria's professionalism and efficiency were evident from the very first interaction. I still remember waking up from an uncomfortable chair to see her diligently and expertly caring for our son. Her skill and confidence were a source of immense reassurance for us. It was hard to believe someone could be so adept at their job, and yet she made it look effortless. Victoria was the first nurse to offer to give our son a sponge bath, showing an incredible level of compassion and attentiveness. She also ensured that my wife, his mother, felt comforted and seen during this emotionally taxing time. Her ability to provide both professional care and genuine emotional support was truly remarkable. One particular moment stands out in our minds. After days of exhaustion and anxiety, my wife and I decided to take a much-needed break and visit the cafeteria. When we returned about an hour later, we found Victoria gently holding and consoling our son. She was rocking him, providing the comfort and security he desperately needed. Witnessing this act of kindness brought tears to our eyes. In that moment, it was clear that Victoria’s care extended far beyond her professional duties—she was truly nurturing our child’s well-being. Her exceptional care, professionalism, and heartfelt compassion have left an indelible mark on our family. We are convinced that she was meant to be a nurse and that her calling is a blessing to all those she cares for. Her impact on our lives has been profound, and we are forever grateful for her extraordinary dedication and kindness.
