Victoria recognized this and had us transported out of there very fast and efficiently. I believe in my heart that A made it to Randall's just in time, thanks to Victoria.
My 12-year-old daughter had been experiencing leg pain for a few days, was seen by her pediatrician, and had an X-ray to make sure she didn't have a fracture from sports. X-ray was negative for fracture, so we went home and planned for rest, ice/heat, and stretching, assuming it was a pulled muscle from either cheerleading or volleyball practice. Three days later, her outlook became much worse instead of better, so we brought her to the ER. Victoria was her nurse, and although the ER was extremely busy, she promptly gave A the attention she needed. Her vital signs began to show signs of sepsis. She quickly drew labs and got an IV started on the first try. She did great getting A comfortable, which she had been painful for days because Ibuprofen and Tylenol wouldn't touch her pain, even though she is usually such a tough girl. She mobilized help so quickly when she received her lab results and CT scan results. A had a rare psoas muscle abscess that showed up on the CT scan and her labs showed sepsis. Her vital signs were worsening at the same time. Victoria was speedy and so kind at this same time. In a flash, A's pediatrician, the ER doctor, and resident were making a plan. Victoria helped with the process of having A transported quickly by ambulance to Randall's hospital. I believe we arrived in Victoria's care as A's body was trying to stop compensating for the hidden infection she had been fighting. Victoria recognized this and had us transported out of there very fast and efficiently. I believe in my heart that A made it to Randall's just in time, thanks to Victoria. Within hours, Randall's hospital put her on a ventilator (very scary as a parent, even though I'm a nurse), started an epinephrine drip to stabilize her BPs, and sent her to the OR. Thank you, Victoria, for your kindness and efficiency! It truly saved my daughter's life. Being in a hospital can be very scary for kids, but you were able to take that fear away for her.
