Inspiration comes in many forms, and over the past week, I witnessed an extraordinary act of dedication and empathy from one of our newest nurses, Victoria. We had a highly critical patient scheduled to arrive at her room at the start of the shift, following an emergency, life-saving procedure. The stakes were high, and preparation was crucial to ensure the patient’s seamless transition and care. Victoria's commitment to thoroughly prepare for the patient's arrival was clear from the start. Before the patient arrived, we carefully reviewed any potential needs to help mitigate any possible challenges when the patient arrived in their room. As I was reviewing the patient’s chart, Victoria excused herself momentarily and entered the currently empty room. A few minutes later, she returned, and I asked what she had been doing. With a gentle smile, she shared that she had blessed the room with a prayer and holy water. This was a small but profoundly meaningful gesture that embodies the spirit of compassion and a holistic approach to patient care. When I asked Victoria more about her practice, she explained that integrating her faith into her work was essential to her. She spoke about how she performs morning prayers for her patients before starting each shift, grounding herself in her belief that her work is more than a duty; it is a calling. This act, though unseen by most, symbolizes her commitment to nurturing both the physical and emotional well-being of her patients. Victoria’s actions were such an inspiration to me. Her practice of blending her clinical care with genuine compassion serves as a reminder of the profound impact that mindful and heartfelt care can have in even the most demanding situations. She truly exemplifies an excellent nurse by bringing dedication, empathy, and faith to every aspect of her role, and for her actions, I think she is a true DAISY Nurse.
