Wendy, immediately, without me having to ask for the support, told me she would be there with me and FOR me! In that surgery room, she hugged me and held me while I was crying.
WI am writing this letter to express my appreciation for Wendy Garza who I had the honor to “meet” last December.

Last December was a month with lots of bad news. At the beginning of the month, after a visit to the ER, we found out that my husband had stage 4 cancer and a few days later, on the 24th week of my pregnancy I was admitted to the hospital with severe Preeclampsia.

During this period, I was lucky enough to have Wendy as my nurse. The first day she had me, she was super supportive and went above and beyond to make me feel safe, not only physically but also emotionally. I felt like I knew her all my life. At the end of her shift, I asked her if she is working the next day, and she replied that she had already requested to have me as her patient. I really appreciated her move, and I was able to sleep a bit more relaxed only because of this. Early morning, I was informed by my doctor and Wendy that I should have a c-section. This came as a shock since I hadn’t even completed the 25th week and according to the last radiology exam, the baby was 350 grams. That same morning my husband had his appointment with the doctor to insert the port so he would be able to start his chemotherapies soon. Because of that, I knew I had to go through this myself. At that point, I was very scared for my husband and the baby, and apart from the physical difficulties, I felt like I was losing my mind, and I could not believe all these things were happening at the same time. Wendy, immediately, without me having to ask for the support, told me she would be there with me and FOR me! In that surgery room, she hugged me and held me while I was crying.

After my delivery, Wendy stopped by to check on the baby and me. A couple of days later, I was readmitted, and once again, she stopped by to see how I was doing. The reason I am giving all these details is because I want you to know about the impossible situation we were in as a family and the level of assistance we received from Wendy. What I really appreciated in Wendy, was her compassion and empathy. Without making me feel sorry for myself or pointing out the difficulty of the situation, she was able to make me feel SAFE!!

Lastly, I would like to say that all of you are very lucky to have Wendy on your team, and we, as patients, could not ask for anyone better. She is an amazing person, and I owe her more than I could ever mention in this letter. She is a wonderful nurse and one of the best people I have ever met. My family and I are very thankful she was by our side, and we were lucky to have met her, even under these circumstances. I would also like to thank EVERY person who was in that surgery room and to say a big thank you to Wendy who was much more than just a nurse in there for me. Thank you.
