My whole journey with a brain aneurysm left me with some foggy memories and yet some very clear memories. I met some remarkable people in the MICU. I never thought in my many years as a nurse, I would be a patient in a coma. Trust me when I say it is quite an experience being a patient; a position I hope not to experience again, at least not with a serious condition. The whole experience was made tolerable by the great nurses you have on your unit. There was one particular nurse by the name of Whitney Dunbar who made such a difference for me and my family. She was a great listener, always tried to make me comfortable, and truly cared about her patients. I am grateful she took care of me as much as she did. My family tells me Whitney was an exceptional nurse. She always did a top-notch job! She managed all those IV lines that worried them by explaining what each line and medication was for and made them feel more comfortable. I come from a large family with inquiring minds and Whitney had the personality to handle them and all their worries and concerns. She is the kind of nurse that makes a difference in the lives of others. Whitney was a blessing to us!

My husband suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. He was on your Medical ICU for four days until he was transferred to the sixth floor and passed on peacefully that night. I am writing to thank you for the care and kindness shown by the nursing staff on both units. All the nurses worked hard to care for him. When we changed his code status to comfort care, they all did everything they could to make him comfortable. The treatment of my family was excellent. Not only was every effort made to make us all comfortable, but they also answered questions and flexed rules to accommodate family members who wanted to be with him in his last hours.

I would like to give special thanks and praise to one of his nurse, Whitney Dunbar. Whitney was a Godsend to us. Her attention to our family's needs was amazing. There was a period of time that he seemed restless. When Whitney arrived to work and was his nurse, her mere presence seemed to calm him. I know her presence calmed us. She had our trust and confidence. Her patience with our many questions and her quick read on how to work with our family goes way beyond the training she received to be a nurse.

Whitney was not only so good to us when she was on duty. Twice she stopped in on her own personal time to check on us. Whitney even used her personal time to drive 30 to 40 minutes to attend his visitation /funeral and to comfort us. We were touched by her acts of kindness. Again, my thanks to all the nursing staff who cared for my husband, and especially for Whitney. May God richly bless you and the work you do.
