During the COVID pandemic, 2 West, a stepdown medical unit was transformed into an ICU. The patient population was intended to be stable ICU patients without hemodynamic instability, however, this is not always the case. I, as an NP, was relocated from the ICU to oversee the 2 West ICU patients and after a few days on the unit, I was incredibly impressed by all of the nurses as they took on this new challenge. They were learning new things and providing extraordinary care to their critically ill patients.
Yesterday 2 West admitted an ICU patient who was started on Levophed, a medication outside of the scope and training of these nurses. Whitney went above and beyond to take care of this ICU patient. She titrated her medication, helped get central lines placed, called me with all critical and concerning values, and was just a rockstar! By the end of her shift she had multiple drugs she was originally unfamiliar with traveled to CT scan and then transferred her patient to the ICU, She hustled so hard all day and her hard work honestly saved her patient's life. I am so grateful to work with an open-minded, intelligent, hardworking, nurse, who came to work determined to make a difference in people's lives. So Whitney, thank you! #2westproud
