I applaud Will for her continuous dedication, hard work and care.
I have worked alongside Will for more than 2 years and she always demonstrates professionalism, patient advocacy, respect and compassion. Yesterday her interaction with our shared patient inspired me so much so, that I will always think of her when I reflect on the joy that is providing excellent patient care at Rancho.
Yesterday's surgical patient was a young man who was septic from his decubitus ulcer. He was relatively unstable and at increased risk of a major post operative or intra operative event. Fortunately, the patient had an uneventful surgery. At the end of the case, Will shared with me that she has known this patient for almost 20 years! He was one of her first patients when she worked on the surgical recovery floor and at the time she cared for him for 4 months. She had gotten to know the patient well and his whole family.
Over the years, she maintained a friendly relationship with him during his rehabilitation and subsequent multiple hospitalizations. I know the patient had a huge sense of relief and comfort knowing that Will was once again taking care of him. This story and Will's experience in caring for this patient for the last 20 years is unique to Rancho and patients requiring recurring long duration hospitalizations. Will embodies the spirit of nursing, to care for another outside of your family as if he were a part of your own family. I applaud Will for her continuous dedication, hard work and care. She has inspired me to provide excellent care, make personal connections, be more open and empathetic to others. Will is an awesome nurse!
