Yahaira refused to take “No” for an answer and figured out how to get the brace and complete her discharge.
In December my parents were in a car accident, and both were brought to RI Hospital for treatment. After a nightmarish 24hrs, my father was discharged with a fractured sternum and my mother remained in the hospital with several fractured vertebra and ribs.
Finally stable and ready to go home my entire family but especially my mother awaited her discharge and were anxious to get her home to continue her recovery.
Yahaira checked in for her shift and discovered that the earlier staff had failed to contact the brace shop and ensure my mother had everything she needed for her discharge. Instead of making her wait until the brace shop opened in the morning to start the discharge process all over Yahaira refused to take “No” for an answer and figured out how to get the brace and complete her discharge.
After a very difficult 48 hrs., we are leaving RI Hospital on a good note purely because of Yahaira’s incredible kindness and professionalism. On top of wanting my mother home for personal reasons, it was also the best thing for her from a medical standpoint as she can begin to fully recover with a full night of uninterrupted sleep.
My wife is a Pediatric ICU nurse and I know how hard nurses like Yahaira work, and I know that their interactions with patients and families are not always easy but Yahaira was exceptional and deserves recognition. Thank you so much!!!
