My wife was hospitalized twice within a month. During both periods we encountered superior service from nursing and patient care staff. Our "superior" evaluation includes those rare times when someone not assigned to our room would help out when the assigned staff member simply could not get to us in time. In my opinion, the reason for uninterrupted service, and more accurately, the constant less than 2-minute response time, no matter the assigned person or not, was due to outstanding leadership and supervision of the floor's charge nurse, Yan Chow.
Sometimes, Yan would come to our room to answer the call button. Always, she wanted to provide help, ranging from a bedpan call to discussing discharge preparation. Yan is an engaging nurse who comforted both the patient and visitor with friendly and inviting conversation. Her manner was peaceful which always provided assurance that all is well and the immediate future is bright.
