She provides excellent education to those who are willing to learn, makes fun crafts and blankets for the babies and the unit and the families. I strongly feel, as many others do as well, that she is SO deserving of the DAISY Award.
Yoli has been a great role model and support to our unit in the NICU. This past month she came in on her days off to put 2 babies on ECMO as she is the only staff member trained to do this. She has been willing to come in on her days off, during the day after working the night before, and even while on vacation to help save these babies' lives. She truly is one of a kind!

Yolie Leyva deserves this award one hundred fold. There are so many stories that I could share. However, there have been several assignments lately that have had infants go on ECMO. She has been a NICU nurse for a very long time and has amazing experience and knowledge that I could only hope one day to have. She has incredible experience in ECMO as well. She had for years ran the ECMO team as well. She is a jack of all trades.

However, in the recent weeks, there have been two babies that had to go on ECMO. She would come in during the day to assist cannulating and starting the ECMO circuit and get everyone set up for success, go back home to sleep for a little bit, be available on call should an issue occur as well as come in for her regular shift at night and take care of those infants. She would also train new nurses who are on the ECMO team how to run the circuit while she was the babies' bedside nurse to ensure that the best care is done for the infants. She not only did this once, but twice within a week and a half of each other. She did not want to be away from the babies as she wanted to ensure the best care was done for them. She cares so much about these babies that she was ready, willing, without complaint to come in and do what is best for them at whatever cost. That is true compassion, empathy, leadership, and commitment; not only to the babies that needed her expertise, but also to the nurses to learn and for staffing purposes to ensure the unit was well taken care of.

Another example, is that, just tonight, there is an infant threatening to deliver that would also have a high potential of ECMO. She just returned from vacation yesterday am and was given a call and she was willing to come in and do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of the infant, staff, and unit to provide the best and safe care.

I highly respect her and aspire to be half the nurse she is. Those are just the recent examples of what she does for the babies and the unit. She provides excellent education to those who are willing to learn, makes fun crafts and blankets for the babies and the unit and the families. I strongly feel, as many others do as well, that she is SO deserving of the DAISY Award. She is truly amazing. I would want her to be my nurse, my baby's nurse, and my family members' nurse in a heartbeat. I trust her fully. She is such a passionate advocate and is amazing. What an excellent leader and well deserved of this award, like I said, one hundred fold.
