Thanks to him, I was discharged the following day because I was able to properly rest and sleep!
I was admitted to the hospital after my ER visit after being diagnosed with diverticulitis of the colon with perforation. I was extremely weak, in pain, everything was hurting, including the lower abdomen, of course, very low blood pressure, and I couldn't eat. It was brutal. I didn't sleep two nights in a row: one of those nights I spent in the ER all night, and then I had to come back to the ER the next day to get admitted to the hospital, and couldn't sleep my first night at the hospital. I was very exhausted. I needed constant antibiotics and fluids through IV to get rid of the infection. The first night at the hospital was nonstop IVs, vitals, etc., so I didn't get to sleep much. I was an NPO patient - no food or drink. Without food for a few days, I was weak and nauseous, with very low blood pressure.
My second night nurse, Yoshiki, came for his night shift. Right off the bat, he was upbeat, pleasant, asking me how I'm doing, what happened, and asking me if I had any questions for him. He patiently waited and answered my questions. He asked me if I needed anything. Given that I was extremely exhausted and weak without sleep, food, and from pain, he realized that making sure I get good sleep was important for recovery and to feel better. I was determined to finally get as much sleep as I could to get better. I turned my lights off in the room with only the bathroom light on. I slept almost straight through the night without interruptions- Yoshiki would quietly come in to change my IV without waking me up. When I woke up in the morning, I was so refreshed and immediately felt better health-wise. Yoshiki would come in like a ninja at night while I was sleeping to change the liquids for the IV, without waking me up. He did it so quietly that I didn't wake up once. That's a skill. I woke up refreshed, feeling better, with less pain, with all the IVs running and up to date. Thankfully, my recovery sped up. I was lucky enough to get Yoshiki again the following night. Thanks to him, I was discharged the following day because I was able to properly rest and sleep! My condition started improving not just due to the antibiotics but because of Yoshiki's understanding, compassion, and competency! I truly believe he helped me recover by making sure I got a good night's sleep. And on top of it, he is such a pleasant person to talk to, he cares, and asks all the right questions. He never missed anything and was extremely competent.
