Zach was recognized for the amazing care he provided to a dying patient and her family on the morning of July 10. His recognition came in a unique way. After this patient had passed away, I received a phone call from a family member who attended the wake but was not present during the patient's hospital stay. This family member wanted me to know that during the wake, her grieving family talked about Zach and the phenomenal level of care he provided, despite their heavy hearts. This family member commented, "Zach must be one heck of a nurse". They were telling everyone who attended her service that he was kind, competent, caring, and his overall care was "amazing"! As his manager, the amount of time and skill at which Zach has transitioned to on 6C has been tremendous to say the least. He is always recognized by name during rounds, and in cards, emails, and phone calls. This story shows Zach's hard work, compassion, and dedication to our 6C CVICU patient population.
