He opened my eyes to first line non-invasive skills that I can use as a nurse to not only improve my practice but to improve the patient's status.
I have chosen to nominate Zach for recognition because he has had the largest impact on my nursing career and the way I practice above anyone else.
No matter what his assignment, or day looks like, he is always willing to help me and others. Not only did he help me, but he teaches, educates, and encourages me as a new grad nurse.
A specific example is a time I had a patient with a gastrointestinal bleed. The patient began feeling lightheaded and fatigued. My initial reaction was to notify the provider.
However, Zach came in the room to help me and taught me the importance of nursing skills and critical thinking. He got a second line for me, placed the patient in Trendelenburg, etc. He opened my eyes to first line non-invasive skills that I can use as a nurse to not only improve my practice but to improve the patient's status.
Zach is a leader on the unit. He helps and encourages me and everyone who comes to him.
